Peace River downsizing challenged
Last spring many Glacier newspapers in the Interior went through cost cutting measures. Now, it seems, it’s the Peace River’s turn.
But, the union has challenged the company’s policy of not replacing workers, as required by attrition language in the collective agreement. We have also grieved reductions of hours for other workers.
The company has implemented the cuts and won’t be meeting with the union until Sept. 22. In total a half dozen grievances have been filed.
Given that the newspapers are moving into their busiest time of the year, it’s unclear why these cuts are being made at this time.
